How to Obtain a Resident or Non-Resident Fishing License

 Residents and nonresidents may obtain fishing licenses from agents throughout the State (sporting goods stores, many convenience stores, town clerks and turnpike service centers, online or from our Department office in Augusta.

 Who Needs a License?


A valid Maine fishing license is required for anyone 16 years of age or older, to fish in inland waters or transport fish taken from inland waters.

Millinocket Lake - Fishing Near Baxter State Park

  • Location: Penobscot County, near the dam outlet

.

  • Access: Public boat ramp available near the dam; last mile requires 4WD on private gravel roads www.maine.gov.


  • Species: Landlocked salmon, splake, brook trout, lake trout, yellow perch, fallfish, white sucker, burbot, and more www.maine.gov.


  • Best for: Coldwater sport fishers; salmon and splake are the main target species.


  • Tip: Large shallow areas near the dam are good for perch and suckers, but can be competitive for salmon and trout.
